There was also a statue that had been brought to life by light, which was very good earlier on the path and a woodland area with lit up reindeer as the most memorable displays. Which was lit with static spotlights beaming into the sky. The best bit is the Circular memorial wall, which is the last site on the trip. The lights were pleasant enough, however being brutally honest, driving around you pass more spectacular Christmas lights that people have decorated their houses with. For the 6 of us it worked out a very expensive couple of hours. This again however was expensive, mulled wine was £5.50 a cup, and the bratwursts are roughly £7 each. There are some food stalls midway round where you could purchase mulled wine, coffee, various german sausages, burgers and waffles, so there was a relatively large festive selection of food and drink, vegetarian options were also available. The tickets were very expensive for what it was, I'm sorry to say I would not recommend going at £25 per head. We visited the memorial arboretum this evening for the Christmas lights show, intended to be a nice evening with the family looking at what I'd wrongly assumed was going to be a Christmas light show based on the price, as opposed to lit pathways around the arboretum. We do hope that you will choose to visit us again in the future. Thank you once again for sharing your feedback. Any additional even profits are reinvested back into our site and ensure that we can continue to grow and develop, remaining a world class destination freely open to all. Whilst we can offer a selection of free events and remain free-to-enter throughout the year, as a registered charity with a responsibility to maintain and develop the Arboretum for future generations, we are unable to run an event of this scale at a loss and must therefore ensure that tickets to attend are priced to reflect this. All the infrastructure needed to run the event is brought onto site specifically for Illuminated Arboretum. Our visitors rightly and understandably expect a world class experience when they visit Illuminated Arboretum and over time this has shaped how we have developed the event, and how much infrastructure, including items that you don’t see in our public areas, is required to run this activity. We’re very pleased to hear that you enjoy visiting the National Memorial Arboretum. I can't recommend it enough and would thoroughly recommend getting Mick! The volunteers are all fantastic and although have to do lots of research themselves, the Arboretum vets everyone and to pass as a guide, you need to complete many modules, so it ensures only the best. The tour ended at 4.30 and we were almost the last people in the park.Īt £175,it was not cheap, but so worth it. It included the display called Shot at Dawn - very poignant. Mick collected us after lunch and our tour continued. Leigh in the restaurant looked after us very well, but the menu choice was different to the general menu and although nicely prepared was a little bland. We stopped for lunch which although included in the cost, was underwhelming. He had many detailed stories to impart and with a buggy for you can cover so much more of the 150 acre site than you could ever do on foot. Micks knowledge and humorous delivery were outstanding. After that our guide Mick Byrne, took us on our tour. The tour started at 10.30 and we first went to the Chapel to observe the 2 minutes silence, one of only 2 places in the UK that does this every single day. We visited as 2 couples and arranged a private tour with a guide on a golf buggy.
